Everything Has a Place

This is one of the most important tips for home organization. When not being used, each item has a place. EVERYTHING must be return to it’s designated spot when you are done using it. Everything down to things kept in your purse.

Have a Designated Daily Time to Clean

Don’t like cleaning everyday? Let me explain! Some of us spend hours on hours cleaning each weekend because we have allowed piles of mess to add up.

Those who always keep a clean house have set aside time to clean each day.

This does not entail hours of cleaning! Just 15 minutes a day will help keep everything tidy around the house. You can add this habit in the morning when you wake up or apply it as soon as you return home.

You can also incorporate spot cleaning to your daily schedule. Spot cleaning is simply watching out for items out of place and putting them back where they belong. This doesn’t have to be a full cleaning routine, just a few items as you see them.

Create a Routine

Having a routine is another habit that highly organized people keep. Routines help you have a default list of things to do each morning, evening and/or weekend. These are important because they are habit forming and helps you set and accomplish goals.

If routines are new for you, you can learn more about them here! Having a routine doesn’t have to be the same thing each day.

Create a To Do List

Creating a list doesn’t have to be fancy. You don’t have to use a planner. You can create a list on your phone or use a piece of paper that is lying around.

If you’re not a list person, you might cringe at the thought of this habit (That’s okay!). Lists truly help me remember things and they help me tackle tasks early on instead of pushing them off until later.

If I neglected writing things down, about half of that list wouldn’t get done.

Even if you’re not someone that love lists, I still highly encourage you to try this out and see if you can adopt this habit. Give it a couple of weeks and see if it works well for you.

Make Your Bed Everyday

Have you ever walked into someones home and wondered if they made their bed because they knew you were coming, or if they just make their bed everyday? You’re convinced no one makes their bed everyday, so you reason that their simply trying to impress you.

But….

Some people do make their bed every morning. You’re quickly reminded of your mom hassling you each morning during your childhood to make your bed.

Making your bed each day helps you start the day with an organized and focused mindset. It also helps your home appear cleaner.

Organized People Never Let Their Laundry Pile Up

Laundry has always been a struggle of mine. When it piles up, boy does it pile! I’ve had to implement strategies to prevent that from happening! That means having laundry days and not just once a week.

People with clean homes find themselves doing laundry every other day. Think about when you have a extensive pile of laundry, how motivated are you in eliminating it? Working with manageable loads can help you stay organized.

Don’t Allow Dishing To Pile Up

This goes with the habit of cleaning up after yourself. Most of us have heard that time and time again. When it comes to dishes, piled up dishes can make or break an organized house. Something about piled up dishes makes your home feel less clean.

Try forming a habit of cleaning your dishes every time you use them. This can help you save time in your evenings with working with a dish full of sinks. Also, they will be much easier to clean since you won’t be fighting with built up stains and particles.

Get Rid of Everything You Don’t Need

Always be on the lookup to let go of items that you have no use for, this adds to the clutter in your life. Removing these items can create a cleanlooking home that is well organize. Don’t leave this task to once a year, do this each week. When you see things you don’t need, donate it or trash it if it’s in bad condition.

Start with things that are ruined or no longer work. These will be the easier items to part with. Then move on to areas such as clothes. If there are clothing items that no longer bring you peace then rid yourself of them. If they don’t fit comfortably or look good on you any more, allow someone else to benefit for them!

Highly Organized People Invest In Storage Solutions

Organized people aren’t necessarily considered minimalist. Some have a house full of THINGS. However, they invest in discreet furniture that will assist in storing these items.

Ottomans, bed frames, clothes organizers are amongst many sets that can be used to organize your home. Organized people also use their space wisely, from large closets to counter space. Buying organizers help maximize these spaces.

Removing things from eyesight can have your home be the place people often ask, ‘How do you keep it so clean?’

People Who Keep Their Home Clean Typically Clean in Categories

If you’re tasked to clean your bedroom, that can take hours! Part of the time is spent making mental shifts. If you’re focusing on clothes and then have to think about cleaning the floors, then shift to making the bed, this can take up time!

Your mind takes shifts from thinking about finding the mop and broom, then shifts to wondering where you’re going to place the clothes. These shifts may feel mini, but they take up time out of your day and aren’t as efficient as focusing on one category.

Cleaning in one category means taking one task around the house, and just focusing on that task. This helps you simplify things and it makes cleaning feel easier.

Make it Fun!

Some of you are already thinking about how organizing and cleaning can be fun. Seems like fun and organization don’t exactly go together.

Make it about you and your time to unwind. You can use this time to play music you enjoy, listen to your favorite podcast and if you like to dance and sing while you clean, then this is your time to shine. If you don’t like that…don’t judge!

If you have kids, you can make it exciting for them by keeping a timer and challenging them to clean an area before the timer goes off. You can reward them with their favorite snack!

Don’t Try to Be Perfect

From all the habits listed, no habit is perfect for everyone. If you try to adopt a system that’s not a great fit for you, it will be hard to stay motivated and be consistent. Try starting small by adopting one habit at a time.

If you fall off, don’t beat yourself up. Remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day! Have fun and enjoy the process
